William Patrick Walters, 70, passed away on May 19th, 2026. He was born to the late Bill and Henny Walters.
Pat was the kind of man the world needs more of. Loyal, compassionate, hardworking, generous, kind, and forgiving - he was warm-hearted, social, and a friend to all who knew him. His smile was genuine, and his heart even more so.
Pat married the love of his life, Susan, on May 16th, 39 years ago. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He would plan every detail of their travels - whale watching in Cape Cod, volcanoes in Hawaii, gambling in Niagara Falls, Canada, and so many more memories made along the way. Fred, their scrappy little dog, was the son of their hearts - loyal to Sue, dramatic about her absence, and a source of both great joy and great entertainment to Pat.
Pat came to Christ passionately later in life. He ministered faithfully at Relentless Church for 12 years, volunteering at the food pantry, ushering, and especially loving his time at the welcome desk. He was proud to have served at the Metro Bus Station, sharing the love of God and bringing others closer to Jesus. His faith brought him deep comfort, including the peace of knowing he would one day be reunited with his loved ones in heaven.
He loved to laugh. He had a deep appreciation for comedians - Robin Williams, Tim Allen, George Carlin, and Red Skelton. Those of us who knew him well remember his Tim Allen phase, where he would grunt just like Tim did on Home Improvement - and he committed to it fully.
Pat loved the outdoors and had a special place in his heart for hiking. He and Susan participated in the Summit County Fall Hiking Spree every year for 15 years, and he was genuinely excited to earn a new badge each year.
He retired from the University of Akron, where he worked as a custodian and took quiet pride in sharing wisdom and encouragement with the students he met along the way.
Pat loved his family unconditionally - with his whole heart and soul.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Henny Walters; his sister Diane; his brother Mike; his sister-in-law Linda; his brother-in-laws Bruce and John; and his beloved niece Monica.
He is survived by his devoted wife Susan; his cherished dog and constant companion Fred; his sisters Connie and Annie; his brother Mark; his sister-in-law Michelle; his brother-in-law Chris; his beloved nieces and nephews Jamie, Missy, Andy, Mark, Bryon, Amanda, and Lynn; his great nieces and nephews Heather, Mac, Wyatt, Mitch, and Miles; and countless cousins who were lucky to call him family.
He was an amazing uncle. A man of integrity. A man who showed up - for his wife, his church, his family, and strangers he hadn't yet met.
