Robert Craig Young, 68, of Akron, passed away peacefully Saturday April 25th 2026, surrounded by loving family.
Bob was born April 10th 1958 to proud parents William R. and Kathryn L. (Lemmon) Young, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.
He was a unique and colorful soul who always brought his singular sense of levity to every situation, with what we all affectionately termed "Bob-isms", as well as with his boisterous, unrestrained laugh, which was often infectious but always memorable to all who met him.
He was known as "Uncle Bob" to many, had a big heart, and was the guy everyone knew they could count on for help whenever they needed it.
He left high school to become a machinist, and also worked with his father and older brother Bill for the Chrysler Corporation. Bob loved hunting, cars, and much like his father; most of all, fishing. He spent a good deal of any free time he had casting a line at any local fishing hole whenever he could. Robert was preceded in death by his parents William (1994), Kathryn (1996), brother Bryan (2010), sisters Linda Stickle (2011), Becky Young-McPeak (2019) and Barbara Salinsky in (2021), and is survived by one older brother, Bill of Ravenna, younger brothers Barry of Streetsboro, Bradley of Newton NC, youngest sister Beth of Ellet, and although Robert never had any children of his own, he was the greatest uncle to a multitude of nieces and nephews as well, all of whom are immensely grateful for the love and care given to Robert by all the staff at the Hickory Ridge home, where he resided for these last few years of his life.
The family will only be having a small private gathering to celebrate Robert's life, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name at the Portage County chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) link here:
