Rebecca Valentine

December 7, 1957 — May 28, 2025

Rebecca Sue "Becky" Valentine, 67, of New Philadelphia passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio after a year-long battle with lymphoma.

Born on December 7, 1957, in Dover, she was the daughter of Kenneth W. and Marilyn (Ault) Burgess. She was preceded in death by her father in 2019.

She graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering in 1985. She moved to Texas with her family in 1997, where she learned to say "y'all," a skill she would use for the rest of her life. She retired from bookkeeping at Panaseas International and moved back home in 2014, after which she spent her time helping her parents and participating in quilt groups and volunteer projects.

She was an avid reader, note taker, movie watcher, and lifelong creative whose mind was always alight with gift ideas for other people. She loved Golden Retrievers, traveling to tropical places, finding new music on YouTube, and treasured every picture of her 3 grandcats, Jasper, Ollie, and Champagne.

In addition to her mother, she will be sadly missed by her son, Mark (Victoria) Valentine of Minnesota; her brother, Kenneth (Brenda) Burgess of Dover; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and quilt group friends.

A celebration of Becky's life will take place at St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. Refreshments will be served immediately following the memorial service for friends and family to reminisce and laugh together.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cleveland Clinic's Patient and Family Support Services fund, which provides free emotional and financial support to cancer patients and their families:
