Marilynn Anita "Burfy" Kacsanek, born June 9, 1957, in Akron, Ohio, was a lifelong resident of the city she loved. On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Marilynn passed away peacefully, surrounded by the greatest joy of her life-her four children.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Olive Debarr; her father, William Wilson; and her sister, Janet Riggs.
Marilynn leaves behind a family who meant everything to her. She is survived by her loving children, Hope Lewis, Dennis Buchanan (Lisa), Joe Kacsanek III (Kristen), and Elizabeth Owens (Ben), and by her seven precious grandchildren-Payton, Gavin, Benjamin, Natalie, Matthew, Karter, and Keagan-who brought endless pride and happiness to her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen Millinen, Leslie Marino, Timmie Moretz, and Patty Strunk and by Joe Kacsanek Jr., with whom she shared 31 years of marriage.
For more than 20 years, Marilynn served as a nurse, pouring her heart into caring for others. Helping people was not just her profession-it was who she was. She truly never met a stranger and could make anyone feel seen, heard, and cared for within moments of meeting them. Known for her unmatched work ethic, Marilynn was always on the move, always doing for others, and always putting love into action.
At home, Marilynn found joy in tending her garden, keeping everything just right, her favorite scratch off lottery tickets, slot machines, and her beloved "bees." Her dog, Armondos, was her constant companion and best friend, rarely leaving her side and always close to her heart.
Marilynn was cremated, and her life was celebrated privately by her family, just as she would have wanted-surrounded by love. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her tireless strength, and the deep love she gave to her family and to everyone fortunate enough to know her. After a lifetime of caring for others, Marilynn is finally at peace and free from pain.
