Jim Porterfield, 73 passed away suddenly on September 7, 2023. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia to David and Mary Porterfield. Jim was married 50 years to Bonnie (nee Andersen). He was a loving and caring father to Alison (Matthew) Allen and Jeffrey and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia. He was the brother of William Porterfield (Jill) and Richard (Deb) Porterfield.
Jim graduated from St. Clairsville High School and attended Ashland College and The Mayo Clinic Foundation School of Physical Therapy. He received his Masters of Arts, Exercise Physiology/Human Biomechanics from Kent State University. He was a certified Athletic Trainer.
Jim began his career by developing a Physical Therapy Department at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio. He then moved on to working at Gateway Rehabilitation Center, Ravenna, Ohio where he was the head of Orthopedics and Student Clinical Education. He was the Director of the Physical Fitness Testing Center at Akron City Hospital and was an Assistant Professor at Cleveland State University. He was the owner and director of the Rehab Center at Crystal Clinic. He co-owned an academic software company and was the CEO of Venture Practice Services.
During his productive career he co-authored four anatomy text books, and four chapters for orthopedic texts. He was the owner of two patents, one for the Lumbopelvic Support and one for the CoreBuilderPro, a Core Strengthening Device and method.
Jim received many awards including Ohio Physical Therapist of the year in 1983, Outstanding Alumni, Mayo Foundation School of Physical Therapy, 1993 and Outstanding Alumni St.Clairsville, Ohio in 1994, and a special achievement award from Ashland University in 1998. He received the "Practice Award" from the Private Practice Section of the American Physical Therapy Association in 2000 and the 2015 Meritorious Award from the Ohio Physical Therapy Association.
Jim loved his work and helping people achieve their optimum health and wellness.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 28, 2023 at 1:00pm at the First Congregational Church located at 47 Aurora St. Hudson, OH 44236.
