Diana Tierney

Oct 24, 1949 — Jun 10, 2026

Diana Tierney Stone RN, 76, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on June 10, 2026.

Diana was was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stone; parents, Don and Helen Tierney; and her aunts, Mary and Betty Remar.

She is survived by her greatest treasure and the joy of her life, her daughter, Sarah Stone. She is also survived by her daughter's chosen family, Vance Hawkins and Hayden Smith, who were like sons to her and brought a constant source of love, support, and laughter in her later years. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Kearney (Alan), her brothers Donald, Michael (Karen), Fred (Diana), Mark (Jean); and her best friend, Toni Gregory.

As a registered nurse, Diana devoted her life to selflessly caring for others with gentleness and compassion. She had a gift for making patients feel seen, heard, and comforted, and she carried that same warmth into every part of her life. Diana earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida before returning to her hometown of Akron, where she continued her career to take care of others.

As a graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Diana was proud to share her alma mater with LeBron James and was a die‑hard Cleveland Cavaliers fan. From the moment LeBron was drafted, she never missed watching a single game. Her favorite memory was the Cavaliers' legendary 2016 NBA Championship comeback defeating the Golden State Warriors who were up in a 3-1 lead in the finals. After the historic win, she and her daughter celebrated in the most iconic way possible: matching tattoos of the 2016 Cavaliers Championship Trophy.

In addition to being a dedicated Cavs fan, she was a huge baker and loved baking sweets for others, specifically cookies. She also loved all things Irish, had a soft spot for bunnies, and could spend hours watching QVC. She was also a loyal Cleveland sports fan through every high and low.

Some of her happiest memories came from the 12 years she spent traveling across the Midwest every summer, cheering on her daughter at Irish dance competitions and making friendships with dance families along the way.

In accordance with Diana's wishes, there will be no services. She also specifically requested to not send flowers. She always said "if you weren't sending them to me when I was alive you better not be sending them when I'm dead!"

To honor her memory (in addition to sharing one with her daughter), she encourages friends and loved ones to play her favorite song, "Rollout" by Ludacris (the unedited version). Turn the volume all the way up. For those who prefer something softer, her second request was "Walking in the Air" from the movie The Snowman.

Diana was laid to rest with two of her favorite things: a Lock‑n‑Lock Tupperware container, and a can of Diet Coke. You are invited to crack open a cold one, play her song(s), and raise a toast to the one and only, Mama Stone.
