Darold Lee Matheny

Darold Lee Matheny, 72, of Wadsworth, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 30, 2026.

Darold worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family, gaining experience across a variety of skilled trades over the years. He worked in new construction hanging drywall, poured and finished concrete, and spent years as a foundry worker and factory machinist. His strong work ethic was a testament to his character. Outside of work, Darold was an avid NASCAR fan who never missed a race, and every fall you could find him relaxing in his chair enjoying many football games. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren - taking them fishing in the summer and enjoying building things both with and for them. These moments, simple and full of love, meant everything to him.

Darold is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Maxx (Jacquie) Matheny and Amanda (Steven) Fowler; and his grandchildren, Griffin, Nathan, Lynnlee, and Tinslee. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Venicia) Matheny, Dave (Wendy) Matheny, and Karen (Mike) Spinelli, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elaine Matheny, and his sister, Charlotte Shaffer.

Darold will be remembered for his love of family, willingness to lend a hand to those who needed it and especially for the memories he brought to loved ones around the Christmas holiday. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion, and quiet joy that will be carried forward by all who loved him.

A small private gathering in Darold's memory will be held at a later date.
