Charles Edward Minadeo, born October 22, 1938, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023, at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, OH after a brave battle with CNS Lymphoma. Chuck, as people who knew him called him, was the loving father to Michael Minadeo, Lisa Minadeo-Fesz (Stephen), Laura Lyons (Russ), and the late Gary Minadeo, all of whom he shared with the late Joanne Minadeo (nee Maurer). He was the proud grandfather of Garey and Eliot Fesz, and Sarah, Eric, and Melanie Lyons. In addition to his son, Gary, Chuck was preceded in death by an older sister who died as an infant, his parents Mark, Sr. and Mabel (nee Sarley), and older brothers, Mark, Jr. and Thomas.
Chuck grew up on East 114th Street in Cleveland, OH. He attended Iowa-Maple Elementary School for kindergarten, St. Aloysius for grades 1-8, and Benedictine High School. In his youth he hung out with friends in the Little Italy area of Cleveland and as an older adult frequently attended the 8 PM Sunday Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Little Italy. As a young adult he loved to dance and was a dance instructor at a Fred Astaire Dance Studio for a time. He loved big band music; his favorite artist was Frank Sinatra. He loved dogs and over the years had many, most recently his beloved dog Duke who passed away a few years ago.
During Chuck's life, he had many interests and careers, including owning and operating an auto body shop, working for a construction company, and investing in real estate. For the majority of his adult life, until his retirement, he was the sole proprietor of The Jay Hotel in Ohio City and The J & J Hotel in the Waterloo District of Cleveland.
Throughout his life, Chuck was a friend to many people, including his best friend and former employee Petey Powell. Chuck always enjoyed talking to people. Recently, when Chuck was in the hospital, someone who was caring for him asked him what brought him the most joy. Chuck said, "when I think about all of my children and their accomplishments." Chuck will be missed by all who loved him.
Mass of Christian Burial for Chuck will take place on January 6, 2024, at 10 AM at Holy Rosary Church, 12021 Mayfield Road Cleveland OH 44106. Inurnment will follow at Knollwood Cemetery, 1678 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Heights, OH 44124 where he will be laid to rest next to his late son, Gary.
